average reanalysis are used to study the synoptic features
associated with formation of two upper tropospheric cut-off low
(CL) in the Southeast Pacific Ocean. In the first case CL onset
originates within a flow bifurcation at the upper level
westerlies. In this context a ridge (R) in the southeast sector
and a trough (T) in the northeast sector become part of the
bifurcation. The advance of an cyclonic vortice in the
southwestern sector of the bifurcation with a strong jet stream
                         amplifies and accelerates R, making T northwest-southeast
orientated, intensifying itself and originating the cut-off low.
In the second case CL is originated as a remainder of a pre
existing bifurcation over the South Pacific Ocean. In the both
cases the coldest core of CL is located at 500 hPa, and the
enhanced ciclonic vorticity anomaly is located at 300 hPa.",
